Uniting to confront the threat of disinfo; An intro to the Collaborative Disinformation Response System (CDRS)
Tuesday August 25th at 3pm ET / 12pm PT
This year at Democrats.com, decided to tackle the major threat of disinformation head-on. We partnered with Josh Berthume of Swash Labs to develop the Collaborative Disinformation Response System (CDRS) methodology.
CDRS is a plan, grounded in the Incident Command System (ICS) framework, that empowers organizations, campaigns, tables, consultancies, and others to confront disinformation threats in an effective and collaborative way. Its adoption will pave the way for a much higher degree of interoperability than we currently have.
In this session, Heidi Sieck and Aaron Straus Garcia will go over the fundamentals of setting up a CDRS process within an organization’s communications and digital team to monitor and rapidly respond to disinformation threats on social media.

Digital Strategy Techniques for People-based Campaigns
Wednesday August 26th at 1pm ET / 10am PT
Digital organizing for electoral campaigns can be an incredibly powerful approach for winning elections. This training is presented by co-founders and partners of Tectonica Digital Campaign Solution, Ned Howey and Mariana Spada, bringing their experiences with the agency in over 400 projects with progressive parties, candidates and NGOS, from more than 35 countries across the world. The training will focus on managing campaigns that rely heavily on the support of activists, how to best engage supporters to convert their participation into needed campaign resources, and how to use people-power strategically in an election setting: factors that can determine whether a campaign wins or not. Alongside this, we will look at several key techniques that we’ve found to have a massive impact in campaigning, from mobilization to decentralised organizing. We will look at how to make your website a center for activist engagement and, finally, how creative, brand and design elements for candidates can help form an emotional bond with potential supporters and voters online.

Digital fundraising and your campaign: How to make a difference in your communities
Wednesday August 26th at 5pm ET / 2pm PT
Reaching your organizing goals is key to bringing about real, lasting change in your community. Whether you’re running a campaign or mobilizing to build political power, it’s important to make sure your digital organizing is reflective of the times in which we live. Communities all over the country are banding together to fight the impact of the pandemic, combat anti-Black institutionalized racism, and pooling resources to ensure we build healthcare and education systems that work for all of us. Small-dollar donors are an important part of this work, forming a powerful base of supporters who are ready to get involved and push your team over the finish line. During this webinar, digital fundraising experts from ActBlue, a nonprofit organization that builds online fundraising tools, will help show you how to build an online fundraising program that empowers your supporters to take action online.

I Approve This Message: Reaching Your Voters with Paid Media
Wednesday August 26th at 6pm ET / 3pm PT
You can have the biggest events, the most viral tweets — but that doesn’t necessarily mean your voters are hearing you. The most successful campaigns make smart use of paid media to get a message in front of the right people at the right time in the right place. But every campaign and district is different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to advertising. We’ll talk through different paid media channels, how they can be bought and used, how advertising for persuasion and turnout differs from advertising for fundraising, and how to start thinking about budgeting and executing paid media campaigns.

Advanced Email Program Management: Moving Beyond “Batch and Blast”
Friday August 28th at 5pm ET / 2pm PT
Because it’s not under the control of any one corporate entity, email — when done right — remains the most powerful tool in the kit for just about any campaign or nonprofit organization. But this channel comes with specific challenges as well; it’s not direct mail where you can just buy lists, and operates quite differently from newer “social media” channels. Join us to discuss the strategic challenges of email program management including list-building, deliverability, cadence optimization, segmenting & targeting, reactivations, and testing.

Bernie Victory Captains: Building authentic leadership at scale
Friday August 28th at 6pm ET / 3pm PT
On the Bernie 2020 campaign, we had a key problem to solve: “Super Tuesday” was bigger than ever before, with states like California and Texas holding primaries on the same day. Over 120 million people lived in Super Tuesday states, which meant that no matter how many organizers we hired, we wouldn’t be able to hire enough to talk to enough voters. Out of necessity, we had to build skilled volunteer leadership at scale. We ultimately did that through a program called Bernie Victory Captains. In this session, I’ll break down what the program was, what worked, where it needed to be improved, and give you tips on how to start scaling volunteer leadership on the campaigns you’re working on or leading.
